STAHLPath Trimming Table

The STAHLPATH macroscopy tables, constructed from high-grade stainless steel and equipped with a FRONT ventilation system, are designed to ensure superior air quality and provide a safe working environment during the dissection of formalin-fixed specimens.

An optional formalin detection probe can be integrated into the STAHLPATH macroscopy tables. This probe activates both a visual and audible alarm when the formalin exposure limit of 0.5 ppm—as stipulated by French occupational health and safety regulations—is reached. This safety feature ensures protection for laboratory personnel in the event of a ventilation malfunction, while also offering peace of mind to laboratory managers by helping to maintain a safe working environment.

The Maximum Authorized Concentration (MAC) for formalin vapors is meticulously controlled at the workstation, with the table providing efficient air purification. Harmful formalin vapors are drawn into the table’s system through a perforated stainless steel plate, where they are then expelled outside through either an integrated or external fan system.

The STAHLPATH Inter macroscopy table features complete containment made of 8mm tempered safety glass, which includes two fixed side panels, a fixed inclined glass pane, and a hinged stainless steel flap. This containment system effectively confines hazardous vapors, prevents airflow disruptions over the work area, and provides additional protection against splashes during cutting procedures. The airflow velocity at the table’s opening is maintained at 0.5 m/s, as recommended by both the French National Health Insurance Fund (CRAM) and the National Institute for Research and Safety (INRS), ensuring optimal protection for users.

The front opening of the table is approximately 20 cm high, allowing the operator to comfortably pass their arms through while maintaining a secure work environment. The transparent tempered glass provides optimal clarity and visibility, ensuring the user enjoys maximum comfort and precision during their work.

In addition, the lower section of the table can be equipped, as an option, with ventilated storage cabinets. These cabinets provide secure storage for DASRI waste containers (optional), formalin recovery containers, new formalin bottles (optionally with a formalin dispensing system), or formalin-filled flasks.

Great care has been taken to ensure the lighting quality in the work area is of the highest standard, providing optimal visual comfort—an essential requirement for effective macroscopic examination. Additionally, magnification lenses are available as an option for those requiring enhanced detail in their work.

In cases where the installation environment requires additional measures—such as proximity to residential areas (within approximately 15 meters of the extraction point) or if air recirculation within the laboratory is needed after filtration—an optional filtration system for formalin vapors can be integrated. This system features a specialized activated carbon filtration column, impregnated with potassium permanganate, designed specifically for formalin. A formalin detection probe is installed at the output of the filtration unit to monitor the condition of the filters. It triggers an audible alarm when the formalin exposure limit of 0.5 ppm is exceeded, ensuring that laboratory air quality remains within safe parameters. The average lifespan of the filters is approximately 10 months, though it may vary based on usage conditions such as temperature and humidity. The filters are provided in recyclable cylindrical cartridges, filled with formalin-grade activated carbon.

We also offer ventilation and filtration columns, which are equipped with the same high-performance formalin filters and detection probes. These columns come with an appropriately sized ventilation motor, tailored to the airflow volume required for the specific installation, ensuring efficient extraction and filtration of formalin vapors.
